JEFF BAGWELL
CLASS OF 2021

DSC_0116.jpg

Who doesn’t recognize “Baggy’s” iconic wide stance and swing?

Opie Otterstad knows it quite well since he’s known Jeff Bagwell since his Rookie year in 1993. Because of this, Otterstad knew precisely what he wanted to paint.

Otterstad also included Bagwell’s infamous baseball glove, which Opie described as a “specialized hand pad with an airbag on it.” It was crafted when he broke his hand.

Baggy is seen in the ‘05 Astros jersey during the 2005 World Series run, where Jeff is

looking up towards the outfield as if he’s just slammed it out of the park.

“If you know ‘Baggy,’ you’ll know baseball is about the relationships and family you make,” said Otterstad. “In the top right-hand part of the stands, you’ll also see two ghosted familiar faces, faces of Houston Astros third baseman Ken Caminiti and Astros pitcher Darryl Kile. Two of Baggy’s close friends were taken too soon and played a significant role in Baggy’s career. They’re now watching over him.”
