Since being drafted by the Houston Oilers back in 1967, Kenny Houston has been a mainstay on the Houston sports scene for years. His Hall of Fame career was defined by his hard-hitting and ball-hawking style of play at the safety position, which helped redefine the role of a defensive back in the NFL.

Watch Kenny Houston the moment he found out he had been selected for the Houston Sports Hall of Fame.

A Texas native, Houston excelled in athletics from an early age, playing both basketball and football at Dunbar High School in Lufkin. After graduating, Houston attended Prairie View A&M University, where he played football and quickly became the starting linebacker for the team.

His exceptional skills and dedication to the game propelled him to the professional level. He was drafted by the Oilers and had a remarkable career, earning 12 Pro Bowl appearances and setting the record for most defensive touchdowns in a single season (5), a mark that still stands today. In all, Houston intercepted 49 passes, recovered 21 fumbles, and scored 12 touchdowns, 9 of which came off interceptions.

Houston's impact on the field was undeniable, earning him numerous accolades and a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 1986.

In addition to his remarkable achievements on the football field, Houston has been actively involved in the Houston community. Following his football career, he coached at Wheatley High School and Westbury High School. He has also spent years working as a counselor, guiding young people through tough situations and helping inspire future generations.
