$10,000 Donation Made By DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation to Olympic Day Programming in Houston & Harris County

Houston, TX – The DICK’s Sporting Goods Foundation awarded a $10,000 grant to the Sports Authority Foundation (SAF) in a special check presentation at the grand opening of their DICK’S Sporting Goods, Meyerland Plaza location.

Aaron Pisk, DICK’s Community Marketing Manager, presented the check to Harris County – Houston Sports Authority(HCHSA) CEO, Janis Burke and Houston Olympians & Paralympians Chapter President, Jackie Washington. The grant will help the Sports Authority Foundation grow its Olympic Day programming to reach even more children in the community.

Olympic Day is a yearly event based on the three pillars of “move”, “learn” and “discover”. Every June 23, National Olympic Committees around the world deploy sports, cultural and educational activities aimed at everybody – regardless of age, gender, social background, or sporting ability. Along with Jackie Washington, many Olympians and Paralympians from around the Greater Houston Area attend Olympic Day to support and mentor hundreds of area youth who take part in the event.

“The Sports Authority Foundation provides another great conduit for HCHSA to do amazing work in the community,” said Janis Burke, Harris County – Houston Sports Authority CEO. “We’re so thankful for this grant from DICK’S as it will allow us to include even more children in this year’s event.”

The DICK’s Sporting Goods Foundation believes that sports make people better and works towards providing opportunities for youth to play sports through grants and other support.

“We are proud to support the Sports Authority Foundation and are excited to see the impact this will make on young athletes in the Houston area,” said Aaron Pisk, Dicks Community Marketing Manager. “We’re thrilled to be a part of growing Olympic Day.”

Each June 23, National Olympic Committees (NOC) deploy sports, cultural and educational activities aimed at everybody – regardless of age, gender, social background, or sporting ability. Some countries have incorporated the event into the school curriculum, and, in recent years, many NOCs have added concerts and exhibitions to the celebration. Recent NOC activities have included meetings for children and young people with top athletes and the development of new websites directing people to programs in their neighborhood. www.houstonsports.org/event/olympic-day/
